AFTER GOD’S OWN HEART–WEEK 2

Our text is 1 Samuel 17, a long chapter of Scripture which we will not read in full this morning. We will look at parts of it as we go along today, but I encourage you to read the whole of the story when you have a chance this week. You may need two sittings as the chapter is 58 verses long.

But as we get going this morning, I want to draw out four ideas, and I’ll put them up on the screen so you kind of know where we’re heading with this today.

First is that to be used by God, we need to be in the right places. Second is that we need to ask the right questions. And third is that we need listen to the right voices. And finally, we need to trust the right one. So, 1) Be in the right place. 2) Ask the right questions. 3) Listen to the right voices. 4) Trust the Right One.

  1. Be in the right place
    1. God may have you bounce
    2. Don’t feel as if you’re failing if you’re not where you want to be
    3. Be where God wants you to be
  2. Ask the right questions
    1. Be certain you hear the Lord’s voice
    2. Be certain your motive is for the Kingdom of God
  3. Listen to the right voices
    1. Many voices will tell you that you can’t
    2. When God calls you to something, His voice will tell you can do it!
  4. Trust the Right One
    1. When you place your faith and trust in God, you win every time.
    2. Even if you die, you win, because where you going?
    3. Don’t ever trust in ANYTHING other than God!

Challenge:

  • I want you think about where you are right now. Are you where you want to be? Or are you where God wants you to be? Are you obeying God in where you are? Are you finding your worth in what you are doing or in who you are? This is the point that David shows us…he was comfortable in the palace…he was comfortable with sheep…it didn’t matter to him because he was walking in obedience to God.
  • I want you to think of five questions that you can ask that will help you find God’s will for your life. Here are a few suggestions. “What do I enjoy doing?” “What am I good at?” “What are the opportunities that God is laying out before me?” “What is God’s will for my life?” When you ask these kinds of questions, you will being to see where God is taking you and how He is honing your abilities and sensibilities for His Kingdom.
  • List to God’s Word, God’s People, and God’s Voice. Don’t allow the noise of the world that is so obnoxiously loud to drown out the beautiful sound of His voice. And then obey what He tells you.
  • Place your faith and trust in God…NO MATTER WHAT! It’s hard sometimes to accept that God is there, that what He’s doing is in your best interest, but when you place your faith and trust in Him, He will never lead you down the wrong path. He’ll never take you to the wrong place. When you walk in daily obedience to God’s voice, you will always be where He wants you to be.
